At just 12, Rida Bashir faced a heartbreaking loss—a father taken too soon. But in the face of grief, her mother became an unshakable pillar, raising her children with unwavering resilience. As the eldest, Rida embraced responsibility with quiet strength, determined to turn adversity into achievement. Her journey began at Garrison College, where she wasn’t just a student—she was a force. A vibrant part of the Dramatics and Literary Society, she didn’t just participate; she led. As President of the Social Service Society, she championed causes beyond herself, proving that leadership is built on service. But her true metamorphosis took place at Shalamar Medical and Dental College, where she pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT). Here, she mastered the art of balancing science and creativity. As Event Management Head of the Shalamar Arts and Photography Society, she orchestrated events that left lasting impressions. Yet, beyond the world of art, she immersed herself in the realm of science, contributing to groundbreaking research. Her dedication led to two publications, one earning a place at the prestigious American College of Cardiology Conference, while three others awaited international recognition. Her thirst for knowledge took her deeper—she became a research assistant in a granted genetics project, working alongside LUMS, striving to unravel the mysteries hidden in DNA. Now, as she embarks on her MPhil in Molecular Biotechnology, she continues to soar. Working remotely with Sentry Health, a Canadian clinic, she proves that talent and ambition transcend borders. None of this would have been possible without the Zarina Shamim Scholarship Program (ZSSP)—a lifeline that turned dreams into reality, empowering Rida to break barriers and reach new heights.
